Avaya has released version 10.04.109 of their VPN client that supports both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7. This single client supports the following operating systems (in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions);
- Windows XP
- Windows Vista
- Windows 7
The following issues have been identified and resolved according the the release notes;
- wi00875648 – Certificates with UTF-8 encoded issuer name can’t be selected.
- wi00875671 – Sometimes users might get “Unhandled exception” error when trying to select a certificate or display its details.
- wi00875676 – Pre-application launch command line not saved properly.
In the past I attempted to host the client files and I quickly ate through my 40 GB/monthly quota on my host. I’m going to attempt to-do this again however I will most likely change the URL from time to time to guarantee that people aren’t hot-linking to it.
- NVC32-10.04.109.exe (MD5SUM – 9f100688562386a60766d6837a2116de)
- NVC64-10.04.109.exe (MD5SUM – 32ad85f400315581343a2bb20233fc13)
I may also restrict access to only ARIN based IP addresses, again I’ll have to see how things go the second time around.
Cheers!

I’ve added MD5 hashes for both the files.

Hello Michael,
Thank you for the latest software.
When testing, I am faced with the following error:
“Failed to connect for the following reason: Security Certificate presented by VPN server was not issued by a trusted certificate authority”

Michael,
Will this IP Softphone 2050 4.2 release work on Avaya BCM 400’s above the release of 4.0?
Mark Sheraz says
Why don’t you upload it on one of those file hosting websites (like Rapidshare)? Thanks for the share.
Michael McNamara says
Hi Mark,
I don’t want to run afoul of any DMCA issues (or requests to remove the files) that’s why I’m keeping the files under my control on my servers.
Cheers!

Thanks very much Mike
Just upgraded to a new Dell XPS and was very happy to find the 64bit VPN client for Windows 7. I was tunneled into my company network in minutes…..I’m on call this week!!!
Have a great one.

Thanks for the comment Gene.

Thanks Michael you are a life saver, my administrator is simply no good on distributing the clients, nevermind updates
have you considered hosting it on a free hosting site like mediafire, megaupload or something like that?
it could help with your bandwith utilization problem, I think?
Michael McNamara says
Hi Jose,
I would likely be violated the terms of service (of any number of hosting sites) by uploading a copyrighted commercial software client. While Nortel/Avaya doesn’t charge for the client software it is copyright and usually distributed free of licensing charges to anyone who purchases a Avaya VPN Router. With that said I’ve taken the rare position of hosting the file(s) myself… without any financial incentive (I don’t charge for the files). So I’m hopefully that if Nortel/Avaya doesn’t approve of this activity that they would just request I remove the files short of actually taking me to court.
It’s also no secret that this blog and the discussion forums are followed closed by a number of Nortel/Avaya employees.
Thanks for the comment!

Hi Michael,
Thanks for posting this! I will comment as the others that you are a lifesaver.
But I would have a related question as I successfully installed this version, but I do not know how to extract my client profiles from the previous installation.. and have this version read those instead. I would have liked to create the profiles one by one, but the thing is the GroupID-GroupPassword is not shared by the administrator. And when we install our VPN version from the company, those profiles are installed too. So it is only now that I see the need to extract the profiles.. or maybe something like to “update” the current version and so the profiles need not be recreated? Any thoughts?
Michael McNamara says
Hi Cha,
I haven’t look at the Avaya VPN client in a long time now but I would guess that it’s possible. Assuming you have a Windows XP machine around to test with you might be able to retrieve the settings from the Windows XP machine after you install their packaged client. I will probably guess that the group password will probably be in some type of hash so it won’t look like a password. You might want to try and extract the files from the packaged installer… if it’s an MSI it should be easy to find information on Google around that.
Good Luck!

Hi Michael,
Thanks for your inputs.. I did find an msi, but quite lots of them :) So what i did was try to install the new version of Nortel on top of the older one.. and it did not ask me to uninstall the old one (so my hopes were up!).. and now when I open the About section of the VPN, I see the new version reflecting.. with all the profiles intact! Which is very good. I just hope I dont come across some issue such that the new version did not write successfully to the registry or the new version would still access the old system files. Crossing fingers. :) Thanks again for the input!

If you need bandwidth for hosting files I can setup something on one of my servers.
Michael McNamara says
Thanks for the offer… for now I think I’m fine. I’ve managed to fend off the bots by changing the URL occasionally and putting in place some referrer filters.
Cheers!
