If for whatever reason you’ve lost the Web UI or “admin” password your only recourse is to factory default the wireless switch.
To access the switch using a password recovery username and password:
1. Connect a terminal (or PC running terminal emulation software) to the serial port on the front of the switch. The switch login screen displays. Use the following CLI command for normal login process:
WS5100 login: cli
2. Enter a password recovery username of “restore” and password recovery password of “restoreDefaultPassword”.
User Access Verification Username: restore Password: restoreDefaultPasword WARNING: This will wipe out the configuration (except license key) and user data under "flash:/" and reboot the device Do you want to continue? (y/n):y
3. Press Y to delete the current configuration and reset with factory defaults.
Once the switch has complete it’s reboot you should be able to login with the default userID or “admin” and the default password of “symbol”. If you had previously backed up the configuration of the switch you could restore your old configuration.

i did that with my rfs6000 switch but could not connet to it please will you help me to
Michael McNamara says
Hi Melvin,
What exactly do you mean by “could not connect to it?” You couldn’t get a login prompt? You realize that at the “login” prompt you need to use the userID of “cli” and then at the username prompt use “admin” followed by “superuser”.
Good Luck!

Hello good days, I need resetear the password of my ws5100 since I do not remember it, I saw the steps to continuing, my consultation is if I do the above mentioned steps, I lose the whole configuration of the current switch? Have I to return to form it?
Michael McNamara says
Hi Omar,
You will lose the configuration but you’ll have access to the switch again so you can re-configure it as you like.
Good Luck!

Hi. Thanks for this resource . its great.I am trying to access the RFS6000 switch via WebUI and am using the MGMT port.
THe IP address for the me1 interface is 10.1.1.100 but when I try and use that http://10.1.1.100 … it does not allow me access..
I am using my NIC ethernet port from a laptop to MGMT port on swtich.
Any ideas?
Michael McNamara says
Hi Raul,
Let me suggest that you take any future issues to the discussion forums.
I’m assuming you can ping the interface?
I believe the default configuration is for HTTPS. I would try https://10.1.1.100
Good Luck!

I have a Motorola ws2000 and can not find what the user name and password was set to. Is there a way to reset the user name and password to the default. I have tried various options but none so far have worked. Does anyone know how to reset everything back to factory default when you do not know the password?
Michael McNamara says
Hi Mark,
You’ll need to connect to the console port (19200-8-N-1) with a crossover serial cable. Power cycle the WS2000 and you should be able to break out of the boot-up cycle by either hitting the ESC key or holding it (can’t remember right now). If that’s successful you should get a command line prompt at which you should enter “passwd default” and you should enter “reboot” to reboot the controller. Depending on the firmware/software release you have installed the default username will be “admin” and the password will either be “symbol” or “motorola”.
Good Luck!

Hi Francisco,
The RFS6000 utilizes a standard Cisco pinout.

On my Brocade RFS6000 my steps were as follows:
Step 1: Console to the switch at 19200
Step 2: At the login DO NOT type “cli”, instead, type “reset”.
Step 3: It will prompt with the message “WARNING: This will wipe out the configuration…” and ask for a password.
Step 4: Enter “FactoryDefault” as the password, and the switch will reset to default and begin a reboot!
