Here’s a short sneak peak behind the scenes of a large IT operation on Cyber Monday. It was an intense 20 hour day in which we had a few interesting challenges but nothing significant. We recorded some of the highest values for bandwidth and RPM (requests per minute) on both the edge CDN network and our origin servers that we’ve ever seen to date. Ultimately we were successful in keeping all our eCommerce websites online and operational in the face of the huge demand from online shoppers. It was exciting and thrilling to be part of the team and I’m really proud of everyone.

Here’s a recently constructed IDF with a stack of Cisco 3850X switches and 6″ patch cables. It looks pretty clean doesn’t it? Although, you can see that the 6″ patch cable doesn’t allow too many options when patching the data jack. You essentially need to connect the data jack to the switch port either directly above or below the patch panel.
