Thanks for all the helpful information. I don’t know where to post this question, but here seems as good as any place.
We have an 8610
# box type : ERS-8010co
# software version : 4.1.5.4
that we want to add a 8608 GBE module to. We stuck it in the box, assuming it was hot-swappable, but the whole switch took a dive. We removed the module, and rebooted the box, which came back fine (thankfully) but we’re leery about doing this again. Question is, how can we be sure this is going to work? Is a reboot needed? Have you seen this before? Is there a log that would tell us what went wrong?
Thanks

Hi Rick,
I happy to hear that you’ve found the information useful.
The cards for the ERS8600 are most definitely hot-swappable. I’m just not very familiar with the CO (Central Office) chassis that you claim to have. Are the cards inserted horizontally or vertically? What exactly happened when you inserted the 8608GBE?
Unless you are oversubscribed with respect to the power supplies the card should just boot up with every port in the Default VLAN. What did the logs say if anything once you reviewed them? If you cold/warm booted the switch you’d need to pull the *.005 or *.006 files from the PCMCIA cards on the CPUs (if you have dual CPUs you’ll need to pull the files from both PCMCIA cards).
Good Luck!
