In June 2006 Nortel released a whole new line of class Ethernet Switches for small to medium sized businesses. While these switches don’t support the latest and greatest enterprise features they seem to be a very good value for those small businesses.
There are multiple models to choose from in both the 24port and 48port form factors, there are PoE (Power over Ethernet) models as well.
A full list of the models and there feature sets can be found here.
There are some re-occuring questions from folks that I thought I would post on;
What is the default username and password?
Username: nnadmin
Password: PlsChgMe!
How can I factory reset the switch or recover the password?
There is a reset button in the front of the switch depicted in the figure below as (2);
What is the default IP address of the switch?
The default IP address is 192.168.1.132 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0.
How can I login to the switch?
Just give your desktop or laptop a static IP address in the 192.168.1.0/24 network, connect your desktop or laptop to any of the RJ45 ports and open a web browser to http://192.168.1.132.
While I’m happy to post this information here let me just point out that all this information is in the documentation if you chose to RTFM.
Cheers!

Is that the IP address of the switch itself? The MAC address prefix is assigned to Nortel according to the IEEE OUI database. You’ll need to look through the documentation on how to “factory reset” it although it will obviously have something to-do with the reset button on the switch.
What exactly is happening every 15 minutes? How are you troubleshooting?
If you want additional help please post your question on the discussion forums.
Good Luck!

Hai,
I am also having the same problems, Nortel BES110 24 Port Switch hanging/ disconnecing frequently or when i do ping, itself showing request times out. when i do reset , then switch is working for some time , is it switch problem or there is any setting. if anybody having any solutions please post or send to shiva@rajgrp.com

Hi Siva,
It sounds like the switch might be going bad. There’s no configuration where the switch should reboot and stop responding to ICMP pings.
You might try factory resetting it and see if it behaves any better, else it probably needs to be replaced.
Good Luck!

Any idea where I could get support (hopefully free) on a BES-220-24-PWR ? I acquired a used switch which I want to use for multicasting A/V streams on some ports. Using IGMP snooping should prevent the streams flooding other ports, such as the ADSL router. However even when I enable snooping for the relevant VLAN, the multicast packets are still appearing on all connected ports, as shown by the RMON statistics and running Wireshark on a connected PC. The ‘Multicast Group Membership Table’ in the web UI does not show the PC port being in any groups.
The switch is running SW v1.2.0.002 and has been reset to factory state. I don’t have the exact Nortel manual, but found one online for BES 100/200 and followed the procedure to enable IGMP.
I’ve tried configuring a different VLAN instead of the default, but with the same result. Also tried the Rate Limiting settings, with Multicast set to 1%, again with no effect.

I believe I responded to your post in the discussion forums.

Hi Michael,
I’ve never used a switch before, so apologies if this is a bit of a basic question.
I’ve just been given a 110-24T so I can expand on the 4 ports in my ADSL router. I can get into admin tool using the default password, but can’t work out how to get connectivity through to my router to the internet. I’m using a crossover cable between the router and the switch. What settings do I need to make to get this working please?
Many thanks,
Jason
