can you please explain me what is the difference between SLPP-Guard and SLPP enable on per interface? also, if i enable SLPP per interface (not globally) does it going to work? and what happened if i just enable SLPP globally (not per vlan or per interface )

So VLACP is just a Layer 2 heartbeat to detect path failures… you should leave VLACP out of the mix until you have the MLT/SMLT configuration setup and working properly.

Good Luck!

I have been using the forum for guides and advice, and its proved very valuable.
I have 3 stacks of 5520 & 5510. would the timeout-scale 5 & the fast-periodic-time 500
be different as there is no 8600 in out setup. there is one stack with 2 x 5520 and the other 2 stacks have 3 switches in ( 1x 5520 Base and 2 x 5510 ), I have set ports 1/47,2/47 on the 5520 stack to go to one of the 3 switch stacks 1/47,3/47 & then on the other stack it will be 1/48,3/48.

I assume this will work ? Do I then create an MLT for the relavant ports ( 2 MLT’s that contain the ports in the VLACP ?

so PVID is like a native vlan in Cisco!!!

Let me ask you this for further clarification, if i am not using VIOP connection and port is only being used as access port (host only), can i be used first command only – vlan members 115 2/18-25? would that be enough?

Let’s not confuse VPN with VLAN… very different things…

The second command determines which VLAN an untagged packet will be placed into if it is received on the port.

When you have a VoIP deployment you set the PVID to the data VLAN because the PC will not tag packets so those need to be placed on the DATA VLAN. The IP phone will tag packets for the VOICE VLAN, but you still need to add that VLAN to the port as well.

Cheers!

You had two different problems.

We already set the VC IP address… in short it’s a virtual IP that gets moved to the VC IAP.

You can check out the configuration in this post – https://blog.michaelfmcnamara.com/2017/03/aruba-instant-access-point-example-configuration-walkthrough/

can you please describe what following command do in VPN? isn’t it serve same purpose?
A first command, assign vlan 2014 to port 14-16 and second command does the same..then why Avaya have two different command?

vlan members 2104 2/14-16
vlan ports 2/14-16 pvid 2104

further i also see following config…if untagged packet received on port range 18-25, do it assign to vlan 115 or 5?

vlan members 115 2/18-25
vlan ports 2/18-25 pvid 5

Comment on Stacking Avaya Ethernet Routing Switches – Hints Tips Gotchas! by Kevin Orris https://blog.michaelfmcnamara.com/2012/02/stacking-avaya-ethernet-routing-switches-hints-tips-gotchas/#comment-116618 Wed, 14 Nov 2018 19:47:02 +0000 http://blog.michaelfmcnamara.com/?p=2688#comment-116618 I had test practiced stacking with three Avaya 4826GTS switches that were extras. Two were originally stacked and I was adding another.

I read your write-up and the practice run was successful.

However, it was several weeks before I actually tried to add two of the extra switches to an existing stack of two and I screwed the pooch by not changing the selector switch from BASE, and I was adding the two additional switches at the same time.

I don’t know why or what I was thinking at that brain fart moment but I caused a big problem before I could stop it.
I returned the original stack to its former configuration by removing the two switches that I was adding but something went bad or wrong where the two number one ports that connect to an Alcatel fiber switch stopped communicating with the Avaya 4826GTS at the other property.

I had to contact the person that installed them to look at my problem and he was able to get the connection back up. He said that it is a problem with multilink trunk configuration of bonded or lag settings of port(s) and has to get with Cox fiber team to correct the settings that were there before.

I really made a big mistake from what I did compared to my practice run with the extra stacked pair and adding a third switch to the stack.

What do you thing happened when I attached the two additional switches to the existing stack simultaneously AND forgetting to move selector switch from base?

When the VC comes up, the master static config always overrides all the others requeriments.

I use a the best and more physical controlled/accesible IAP on the VC to be the master IAP.

dont be worried about it, if it is lost this master the second better one (best plataform IAP avaliable will be the master) Tested several times.

the Worst thing can happen if the network has flaps, sometimes the VC splits in two or three parts, but when the network achieve stability againg, the VC rebuilt itself. (you can also help to this, doing a full reboot of all aps -poe shutdown)
