The ERS switch 4850 uplink light turns on, and the CLI says the link is up, but on other side vsp 9000 it’s showing link is down Any ideas on how i can get these two working together?

From searching in the internet, it looks like the encoding might not be the right one. Does anyone know what are the character encoding settings? Or maybe, any other idea?
I try pressing Ctrl-C, then I, then A, all those without knowing what is displayed, but nothing happens.

I would assume that it just resets the stack process.

Will that just initiate a warm reboot, or will it reset the stack to factory default values?

Thanks!

I’ve only ever done that with the legacy Nortel (Avaya Blue) IP phones, 1100 series specifically.

The IP phone would request via TFTP a configuration filename from the server using the IP phones MAC address as the filename.

I’ve never had the opportunity to test this feature using the Avaya Red IP phones, 4600, 9600, 1600 series IP phones.

Cheers!

Comment on RSMLT Configurations by Michael McNamara https://blog.michaelfmcnamara.com/2009/03/rsmlt-configurations/#comment-95522 Sat, 26 May 2018 12:35:38 +0000 http://blog.michaelfmcnamara.com/?p=690#comment-95522 You can certainly “merge” the VLANs between the two solutions… assuming this is a temporary solution until you remove one or the other you can just setup a simple SMLT trunk between the two. I would just set it up as a simple SMLT configuration on each side, remember the two clusters have no idea what they are connecting to so from that perspective it’s just a simple LACP over SMLT configuration.

Cheers!

This is Layer 3 QoS not Layer 2 802.1p.

1. One of the phones remains loaded the Firmware and it is restarted continuously and it will not be removed from that state, is there a sequence of numbers when turning on the phone to reset it to the factory ?.

2. In which part of the configuration file the Mac of the equipment is specified to generate independent files with its extension and that each telephone takes it independently.

I appreciate the answer Michael.

Long time subscriber, keep up the great work!

I have an Avaya 3500GT-PWR which will not allow me to get past the banner. It doesn’t matter how many times I hit CTRL-Y, it does absolutely nothing. I am stuck at the Avaya banner and there is no way out. I have tried different serial cables and different computers all to no avail. Any idea what I can do? I don’t mind factory resetting it, but I have to get past the CTRL-Y screen first to do that. Any suggestions for me?

Thanks a lot,
Eric

Comment on RSMLT Configurations by Rajesh Bisht https://blog.michaelfmcnamara.com/2009/03/rsmlt-configurations/#comment-92115 Tue, 01 May 2018 06:34:02 +0000 http://blog.michaelfmcnamara.com/?p=690#comment-92115 Hi Michael,

I am a bit new to Avaya Data platform, so need your guidance for a proposed network changes in our setup. I am not sure if this is the right forum for that.

We have two different networks with different set of Cores ( VSP 8400 with RSMLT in one setup & ERS 8800 with RSMLT in second setup ). Now we have a requirement of merging these two networks. I know that two switch clusters of same type can be merged, but not sure if switch clusters of two different models can be merged or not. If you could confirm that , it will help.

Also, this is our requirement after the merging. please advise if these can be achieved by merging two clusters.

1. VLANs of Cluster 1 should be able to access some VLANs of cluster 2 & vice versa. Do we need to create same set of VLANs on both clusters? or routing them using RSMLT port configuration will work.
2. Static routes configured on both the clusters should still be able to work as before. Is this workable?

Please advise.

Regards,

Rajesh

Maybe this is not a right place to ask this question.
However, I was wondering if you would share some best practices to configure ports on Avaya ERS-5000/5500 series switches for Signaling Server, Voice Gateway Media Cards, Media Gateways, etc.
Perhaps some QOS real-life examples to remark/classify traffic at Layer 2.
I found Nortel/Avaya QoS is hard to understand.
Maybe any forums that do discuss this topic.
Thank you once again for your much appreciated help time.

This is usually for the VLAN that will have the IP phones attached… this will tell the switch which VLAN to return in the LLDP advertisements, etc.
