Thanks for the comment Del.

Sorry to hear about that, hopefully your home insurance picked up some of those expenses.

I was turned off to the Microsoft Surface devices with all the early driver and BIOS issues. It sounds like they’ve solved most of those problems today, but early on it was extremely painful. I’m pretty happy today with my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 460. Plenty of power, battery life is good… and it’s fairly small and light if you need to carry it around from IDF to IDF in a million square foot facility, or while your suspended 35′ in the air on a scissor lift.

Cheers!

Thanks for the comment Patrick.

On my laptop dock I have a Cooler Master MasterKeys S which has no number pad. I find myself slightly more productive/efficient not having to reach so far for the mouse with no number keypad on the keyboard.

Cheers!

Daily, not dialing. lol..need coffee.

BTW, the battery performance on my wife’s 13″ Microsoft Laptop 2 is the best I have ever seen. It goes days without needed a recharge even with constant use.

The battery life on my 15″ Microsoft Laptop 3 is so-so, maybe even poor. I like the larger screen size, but the battery life and having to recharge every day is annoying.

The performance is pretty good for most of what I do on a day to day basis.

I also replaced all the network gear in my home. Lightening hit the pole outside my house and through the coax from my ISP it blew up about $5k in networking gear (Cisco Firewall, HP Switches, and Aruba APs). It also blew out the network ports on everything else which all had to be moved to wireless – TVs, XBOX, Apple TVs, etc.

I had surge suppression on the electrical outlets, but not on the ISPs COAX for their cable modem.

Comment on No Internet Connection – Microsoft Office – Pulse Secure by Angel Hernandez https://blog.michaelfmcnamara.com/2018/12/no-internet-connection-microsoft-office-pulse-secure/comment-page-1/#comment-163517 Fri, 08 Nov 2019 16:35:46 +0000 https://blog.michaelfmcnamara.com/?p=6267#comment-163517 I’ve been facing exactly the same issues as you. After I installed Pulse Secure, my laptop is a mess with the network connections. The task notification are doesn’t show the network icon any more whether it is wired or wireless.

I also installed Pulse on my Windows Server 2011 and it was the same disastrous behavior. It alters the status of the network connections.

I have to deal with it because my employer requires it in order for us to work from home when necessary, so I don’t have a choice.

I’m really wondering how “secure” Pulse Secure is.

It wasn’t well documented when I was working with the Juniper SRX. I believe it was possible but you needed to try using a third-party VPN client.. which was always a challenge.

(it all runs together at this point) year. We have a T1 that handles a backup DNS server. Got an alarm that connectivity was lost with the server. It’s an AT&T Managed Service connection that uses Verizon for the local loop on our end. Turns out that Verizon just de-provisioned the circuit. It took 2 days to get it operational.
