Hi Jade,

I’ve had all sorts of band steering issues years ago (when it was fairly new) and have never really tried it since then so I can’t really comment.

Cheers!

I’m using Aerohive AP’s with 2.4GHz/5GHz SSID’s. When the clients send a probe on 2.4GHz, the AP responds 5 times (Default value) with 5GHz in attempt to “steer” the client to 5GHz. If the AP doesn’t get a response on 5GHz after 5 tries, it finally sends a response on 2.4GHz. The Galaxy S4 refuses to be band steered. I created a test 5GHz only SSID and the S4 connects without a problem. I wonder if the band steering problem is related to WiNG.

There is a patch for WiNG 4.3.4.0-0014R and 4.4.2.0-001R. solving the issue with Samsung.
You can get it from technical support if you have service agreement with Motorola.

Cheers!

I did backup the startup-config and started the conversion tool, but I didn’t need it. After I put the new firmware on, I set it up as before with the startup wizard. Our Galaxy S4’s are connecting now.

The upgrade from WiNG 4.x to WiNG 5.x is not trival… you need to rebuild your configuration or convert the existing config.

Thanks for the feedback Mata!

I’ve noticed that the problem doesn’t impact WiNG 3.3 on a WS5100 either.

I’ve been in touch with Motorola who’s received multiple reports of the problem, so hopefully they’ll have a fix/workaround.

Thanks for comment!
Cheers!

This error message is related to the value mismatch of radio resource management fields sent by the mobile unit.
The only known workaround here is wing 5 where the problem does not exist.

Cheers!
