Watching Microsoft recently buy Skype I think was interesting… To this day I strongly believe it was a defensive buy for MSFT i.e. simply to not allow Google to get them. Google who is already offering a Free Voice service would simply capture a 500+ million users base of skype users drastically increasing their voice subscribers. add on that the SIP business offering that Sype has.. would then catapult Google into the carrier business.

Now, add what’s on the table from the Nortel rubble, all those Patents.., and you have even more interest from the market [as we are now seeing unfold]. Who gets all this IP? Who is worried that their competitor gets this IP? interesting thoughts to say the least. I for one can’t speculate.

Recently though I am on the Google bus, so I am cheering for them.
