HI Mark,

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

I’ve turned off the automatic syncing as well, I prefer to check in manually. In my college days I wrote quite a few games and applications but since then I’ve only really written a handful of scripts and applications for managing network equipment. I have enjoyed playing around with the PHP code from WordPress but there’s never really enough time to sit down and just code. I recently dug up a game I wrote in my senior year of college with some classmates called ‘Connect Four’. I wasn’t able to compile it because I couldn’t find the graphics library for Borland C++.

I like your blog and will be following it.

Cheers!

I picked up the Motorola version back in November. It’s my first smart phone of any kind, and I’m very happy with it.

With respect to battery life, I don’t think you will find much improvement with ATK. For the first month, I would use it a few times a day to shut down apps. I haven’t done that during the second month. I’ve read a few articles debating the benefit of shutting down apps or letting them run, and I’ve joined the “let the apps run” crowd. Now I just use ATK to shut down a troublesome app here and there.

The best improvement I’ve had for battery life is to shut off sync when I don’t need it, such as when I’m in a meeting or deep into the config of an ERS 8600. I found that apps like Seismic (or Twitroid), Meebo, Facebook, SportTap that access the 3G radio frequently had the biggest impact on battery life. That and shutting down the GPS when I’m in a building and keeping the screen brightness at it’s low setting unless I’m outside in the sun.

Any chance you will write some apps for it?
