Yes I’m admitting that I need to post some new content here…
I’ve literally been wrapped up in a large (400+ handset) Nortel IP Telephony deployment not to mention dozens of other projects including such topics as virtualization and managed data center design. In the coming months I’ll also be participating in designing and setting up a 25 user pilot of Microsoft Office Communication Server and integrating it with the Nortel Succession 1000 platform.
I know a lot of us are also sitting on the edge of our seats waiting to see what will happen with Nortel. I heard a few rumors that something should be announced with the next week or two but only time will tell.
Thanks for reading!

Thanks for the update…any more update on the new 8600 code?

Hi Steve,
The 4.1.8.2 and 5.0.1.0 software appear to be a huge step forward for Nortel with the ERS 8600 switch. All the known issues have been resolved… I believe the only large outstanding issue is a lane lockup issue with some of the GRS cards. That is scheduled to be fixed in 5.1.0.0 software release which is due very soon.
Cheers!

Im in Mexico, and currently we are in the process of doing just that ( integrating OCS with CS1000).
Alberto says
This project involves deploying (1000+) Nortel ip sets in several states (in Mexico), we have 14 sites each with CS1000 our goal is to be able to communicate all sites.

I think I found a bug with 5.0.1.0 code. I have HA turned on and I found that I am not able to use the “peer telnet” command. That’s something I noticed after doing my upgrade on my production network.
Michael McNamara says
If you have the telnet flag disabled in the bootconfig section you won’t be able to telnet to the standby CPU. Since there is no SSH client available on the switch you can run into a catch-22 if you chose to use SSH over telnet.
Thanks for the comment!

“….5.1.0.0 software release which is due very soon.” I’m not holding my breath on this release. They were happy to sell us the GRS modules last December but once they arrived our SE strongly encouraged me to delay install until 5.0.1.0—“It’ll be here in just a few weeks, mid to late Q1 at worst”. You see how that worked out.
Anyway, someone from our security group forwarded me this link, and I think all of you in the process of VoIP projects will find it timely. A very interesting and potentially powerful tool (especially in the wrong hands)
