Motorola has released software v3.3.1 for the WS5100 and v1.3.1 for the RFS7000 Wireless LAN Switches. You can find the release notes for the 3.3.1 (WS5100) software release here. And you can find the release notes for the 1.3.1 (RFS7000) software release here. We’ve been running v1.3 on the RFS7000 for the past few months now with only a few small problems. We hope to start testing the Smart RF feature set that was released in the 1.3 Wi-NG software base very soon. We’re also eager to start testing the AP7131 802.11n Access Port in a few specific locations.
Here’s a quick excerpt from Motorola on v1.3.1 for the RFS7000;
RFS7000 v1.3.1 has the following feature focus: Voice, Security and Resiliency
Voice: Enhancements provide comprehensive WMM Admission control, enabling not only superior voice quality but also optimizations with respect to network usage for voice.
Security: Enhances the built-in IDS capabilities for Ad-Hoc Network Detection and .11n Rogue detection. Provides built-in IPS capabilities via Rogue AP containment for the wireless network.
Resiliency: SMART RF Management that enables the WLAN to automatically and intelligently adapt to changes in the RF environment to eliminate unforseen gaps in coverage. This technology provides dynamic network optimization to ensure user quality of experience at all times by automatic adjustments to channel and power (on detection of RF interference or loss of RF coverage/neighbor recovery).
All the above enable the wireless enterprise by making it easy to deploy, securely and with built-in resiliency and support for voice.
For the Adaptive AP:
• Adaptive AP7131 802.11 a/b/g/n Support ( v3.1.1 )
• Rogue AP detection
• Mesh statistics
• WLAN statistics
• Configurable IPS Sensor on the AP5131( D SKU) in Adaptive mode(ADP-5131 v2.2.1 image)
With the AP300:
• Dynamic Load balancing of AP300s after a primary reverts in a cluster
• Email Notification for critical alarms
• LDAP enhancements
• Cluster GUI for WLANS and APs visualization
• Securing Layer 3 AP and Wireless Switch protocol – Secure WiSPe
• MU Naming
System Enhancements:
• IP v6 Client Support
Cheers!

Hy ,
I have to configure an ws5100 with AP300 acces points.Could you please give me an tutorial how can i install him.
I have tried many times….but the problem is now that the AP300 have an bad signal(only10%).
Please give me an full tutorial ,if you have, how to configure an ws5100 with AP300.
Thanks in advance!

Hi Cipri,
Your asking for a lot of information there friend. You only need to connect the AP300 to the same Layer 2 network as the WS5100 from a logical networking perspective. After that you’ll need to properly configure the WS5100 for the WLAN settings you want, the security settings, the radio configurations, etc. I would suggest that you visit the Motorola website and download the specific product manuals. Please keep in mind that there are significant differences between the 2.x and 3.x software branches.
Good Luck!

Tengo un RFS6000 que al intentar actualizar Firmware dio un error y se reinicio, ahora no puedo accesarlo por Hyperterminal, alguna ayuda?

Hi Betty)
I used Google Translate on your comment and came out with the following; “RFS6000 I have a firmware update attempt that gave an error and restart, now I can not access it from Hyperterminal, any help?”
You get nothing from the serial console? Nothing at all? The RFS6000 has an auto-rollback feature and should rollback to the previously loaded software if there’s a problem booting the current software. If you can post the output from the serial console perhaps I can help further.
Good Luck!

Hi Michael,
The status LEDs are:
SYS 1 Flashing green
SYS 2 Off
Fan Blinking Green
Temperature Blinking Green
This is the console output

…þ….
not run the auto-rollback

The default baud rate of the console port is 19200. Do you have the correct baud rate configured?
If you suspect the hardware is bad you can RMA the switch to Motorola for depot repair.
Good Luck!
