Nortel has released a new version of software for the Ethernet Routing Switch 5500 that adds quite a few new software features along with support for the Nortel Ethernet Routing Switch 5600 Series.
I’ve posted the release notes for those that are interested in browsing them. I thought I would note that there is a resolved issue in 6.0 for people experiencing problems with ADAC changing the port PVID.
Here are the five new ERS 5600 models;
• Nortel Ethernet Routing Switch 5698-TFD
• Nortel Ethernet Routing Switch 5698-TFD-PWR
• Nortel Ethernet Routing Switch 5650-TD
• Nortel Ethernet Routing Switch 5650-TD-PWR
• Nortel Ethernet Routing Switch 5632-FD
Just don’t try to manage that 6.0 switch with an older version of Nortel’s Java Device Manager. Device Manager support for the ERS5500 and ERS5600 v6.0.0 will be in Java Device Manager v6.1.6 targeted for availability from www.nortel.com by 2008-12-19.
Cheers!
Update: Sunday December 21, 2008
Nortel has now released software v6.0.1 for the Nortel ERS 5500/5600 series.
Cheers!

Hi Reynaud,
While your post isn’t exactly on topic it’s a decent question.
You’ll need to download the MIBS for the ERS4500 series switch from Nortel.
Unfortunately or fortunately the 4500 and 8600 switches share several OIDs between each other from the RAPID-CITY MIB. You should look for “rcVlanEntry” in the RAPID-CITY MIB as a starting point.
Good Luck!

Hello Michael,
I was wondering if there’s actually a difference between Avaya’s ERS 5000 Series and Nortel’s 5000’s series.
I’m trying to upgrade a Nortel 5530-24TFD from version 5.0.0 and I downloaded this image: https://support.avaya.com/downloads/download-details.action?contentId=C2013919152449620_4&productId=P0611
The one labeled as 5xxx_632010.img , 6.3.x
But whenever I try to pass it to the switch via TFTP it says “Invalid Image”
Am I downloading the incorrect one? Some guidance would be greatly appreciated!
Michael McNamara says
Hi Alain,
You can’t upgrade straight from 5.0.0 to 6.3.0, you first need to upgrade to 6.0.0 and then you can upgrade to 6.3.0.
Good Luck!

Thanks a lot for the info. Going to try that now!
