I’ve never used a switch before, so apologies if this is a bit of a basic question.
I’ve just been given a 110-24T so I can expand on the 4 ports in my ADSL router. I can get into admin tool using the default password, but can’t work out how to get connectivity through to my router to the internet. I’m using a crossover cable between the router and the switch. What settings do I need to make to get this working please?
Many thanks,
Jason

I acquired a used switch which I want to use for multicasting A/V streams on some ports. Using IGMP snooping should prevent the streams flooding other ports, such as the ADSL router. However even when I enable snooping for the relevant VLAN, the multicast packets are still appearing on all connected ports, as shown by the RMON statistics and running Wireshark on a connected PC. The ‘Multicast Group Membership Table’ in the web UI does not show the PC port being in any groups.

The switch is running SW v1.2.0.002 and has been reset to factory state. I don’t have the exact Nortel manual, but found one online for BES 100/200 and followed the procedure to enable IGMP.

I’ve tried configuring a different VLAN instead of the default, but with the same result. Also tried the Rate Limiting settings, with Multicast set to 1%, again with no effect.

Hi Siva,

It sounds like the switch might be going bad. There’s no configuration where the switch should reboot and stop responding to ICMP pings.

You might try factory resetting it and see if it behaves any better, else it probably needs to be replaced.

Good Luck!

Is that the IP address of the switch itself? The MAC address prefix is assigned to Nortel according to the IEEE OUI database. You’ll need to look through the documentation on how to “factory reset” it although it will obviously have something to-do with the reset button on the switch.

What exactly is happening every 15 minutes? How are you troubleshooting?

If you want additional help please post your question on the discussion forums.

Good Luck!
