I can remember searching for hours trying to located these two “default” passwords for the i2007 and 1100E series IP phones. Hopefully this will make someones jobs a little easier.
In order to access the configuration menu of the Nortel i2007 IP phone while the phone is booting you’ll be challenged to enter the “Administration Password”. The following key sequence should work;
2, 6, 5, 6, 7, *, 7, 3, 8, OK
In order to access the configuration menu of the Nortel 1110/1120E/1140E/1150E IP phone while the phone is booting you’ll be challenged to enter the “Administration Password”. The following key sequence should work;
2, 6, 5, 6, 7, *, 7, 3, 8, Down
If the Nortel 1110/1120E/1140E/1150E IP phone is already running (connected to a Nortel Succession Call Server / Success Remote Gateway) you access the configuration by pressing the Services key twice and select the Network Configuration option.
Cheers!

Hi, I’m having trouble getting to this menu. I have an 1140E which is currently booting, the screen says
“F/W Version 06A5C39d14
Starting DHCP…
Abort”
I can’t press services or enter the code you mentioned to get to the menu. Any ideas?
Michael McNamara says
Hi Dan,
If you’re already at “Starting DHCP…” you’ve missed the opportunity to get the phone into configuration mode.
I would suggest you read this article. You need to strike the four softkeys at the top of the phone when it displays the word “Nortel”.
Cheers!
Justin says
I wanted to comment on this post since the link does not work anymore, its actually the four keys at the bottom of the screen from left to right, not the ones on the top sides.
Michael McNamara says
I updated the link Justin.
Cheers!
Justin says
cool thanks!
Dan says
Hi Michael
Thank you for getting back to me.
I’ve had a look at the article you mentioned however its for a different phone. I have a Nortel 1140e. I tried the softkey approach to no avail.
Any other ideas?
Thanks, Daniel
Michael McNamara says
Hi Dan,
I realize the i2002/i2004 doesn’t really look anything like the 1120e/1140e but the configuration is fairly similar. I’m not in the office to actual test this but if my memory serves me correctly you should strike the four software keys (left to right) just below the display once the Nortel logo appears after power cycling the phone.
Depending on the version of firmware you may also be able to configure the phone by pressing the Services key and selecting Network Configuration.
Once I’m back in the office (later in the week) I’ll confirm that I’m not sending you on a wild goose chase.
Cheers!
Dan says
Hi Michael
THanks for your advice, I managed to get into the settings to change to manual IP addressing. Still couldn’t find an option to change “S1” to my SIP server address so provisioning hasn’t worked. For some reason this 1140 has different menus than my other ones so it’s all very unfamiliar.
Dan says
Hi Michael
I managed to get it all working. Your help has been greatly appreciated.

Hi Dan,
Im just reading this post and am having exactly the same issue with one 1140 with same firmware.
Can you let me know what you did to fix it?
Tried to change to static address but as you could not find s1 address.
Thanks,
Alberto Palop
Michael McNamara says
Hi Alberto,
Your post is vague but I believe it sounds like you can’t find the S1 values within the phone configuration.
If the phone is set for Full DHCP it will not prompt you for the S1 value because it expects to get that value from the DHCP server. I would suggest you disable DHCP on the phone and statically configure everything connecting to the phone to a simple access (VLAN) port. That will help you prove the phone actually works.
I would also suggest you reference the following post, if you haven’t already;
Nortel i2002/i2004 Internet Telephone
In that post I go over all the phone configuration options for an LLDP-MED (Automatic Voice VLAN support) configuration. You should notice that there is no “S1 IP Address”, “S1 Retry” or “S1 Port” values because Full DHCP is enabled.
While your using an 1140e the configuration options are nearly identical to the i2002/i2004 phones.
Good Luck

Hello,
I have a Nortel 1120E Phone that soon as it boots asks for the password. I do not know the password is there a way I can factory reset this phone?
Adam
Michael McNamara says
Hi Adam,
I’m assuming that you’ve lost or don’t know the admin password. I guess you’ve tried the password above and it doesn’t work? Hmmm… I can only guess that there is some procedure but I don’t believe it’s currently documented (probably helps to keep the phone from walking off the site if it’s useless to anyone that might take it). I would suggest you contact your voice reseller and they will probably be able to help you.
Good Luck!

Hi i just bought a semi used nortel (new out of box) 1140e from a company that was going out of buniness. but i cannot seem to get into the config menu at ALL. i have tried pressing the 4 softkeys when “nortel” is displayed but when it do that it just hangs with the “nortel” just sitting there. can someone please help? also when i hit services twice there is a code there but hitting ok does nothing.
if i just let it boot it just tired to get dchp and returns a parse error.
Michael McNamara says
Hi Frank,
When the “code” box pops up enter the administrative password included in the post above. That should get you into the configuration menu and allow you to configure the phone.
As a side note, unless you have a Nortel Succession or BCM system you’ll probably want to load the SIP firmware so you can connect the phone to a SIP provider or any other number of telephony vendor solutions.
Good Luck!
Frank says
YES!!!!!!!!!!! got in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
more to follow…..i will def need more of your help on this one!
thanks!
Frank says
ok next question is i have the firmware for sip and tftp setup, when the phone boots it looks to the tftp server, and says [FW} reading, then it says [FW] failed.
anythoughs on this? i downloaded this firmware SIP1140e02.01.06.00.bin does this seem right?
Frank says
Well i actually got my 1140e’s loaded with the SIP firmware. they are working good so far.
I also have 2 1150e’s which from what i can tell do NOT support SIP firmware as they are more callcenter phones. I would like to sell them or trade them for SIP complaiant phones. Do you know where the best place to look for someone that would be intrested? i hate using EBAY, i guess i could put them on craigslist.
Thanks.
Michael McNamara says
Hi Frank,
I’m glad to hear that you were able to get the 1140e’s working. I can’t really recommend any specific site for either trading and/or selling/buying such hardware. It’s odd that there’s no SIP firmware for the 1150e. Let me ask a few folks on that one.
Thanks for the feedback!
Adam says
Anyone know the default password for the SIP firmware (1120E)?
Michael McNamara says
Hi Adam,
I believe the answer to your question is enclosed in the above post… unless you’re saying that password doesn’t work.
Have a look at the comments to this post for documentation on how to upgrade the 1120E to a SIP support firmware.
Good Luck!
Adam says
I have upgraded the SIP firmware, and in this new firmware the admin password is not the default (as you have above, which previously worked on the same phone). I hope nobody has fiddled with it – trying to track down some way to reset it now.
(Have done the soft reboot method, Press the following buttons in sequence:
mute key
up arrow button
down arrow button
up arrow button
down arrow button
up arrow button
mute key
9 on the dial pad <– after this point the phone will be in a kind of diagnostic mode – press the keys if you want
release <– pressing the release key will drop you out of the diagnostic mode, and reboot the set.)
Adam says
The answer was as it usually is – the most obvious. Someone fiddled with the phone and changed the password!
Michael McNamara says
Hi Adam,
Great to hear you solved the mystery.
I’ve been told there is a way to “factory reset” the phone but I have yet to uncover the mystery.
Cheers!
Jephph says
The method to factory reset a Nortel 1140 set is:
**73639[MAC]## – where [MAC] is the MAC address of the phone using the 2 key
for A/B/C and the 3 key for D/E/F. You can also think of it as **RENEW[MAC]##.
You can enter this at any time once the IP Phone is powered up. If you have the phone
configured for “Live Dial Pad” on a CS 1000, then it must be turned off for this
sequence to work.
Michael McNamara says
Thanks for the information Jephph!
Nickolas says
I have tried to use the above setting and I am still not able to get LLDP-MED working on my IP2007 Phone. I am set to full DHCP and I have setup the Option 43 in the DHCP server. Am I missing something.
Michael McNamara says
Hi Nickolas,
Your question isn’t really on topic for this blog post.
I would suggest you post over on the discussion forums with your specific problem and hopefully someone will be able to help.
You might want to either search or review some of the discussion threads that have already covered LLDP-MED;

I realise this is a very old post but it’s handy to use color*set to remember the password, especially if you need to communicate it to an EU in an emergency/no remote hands sort of situation.
Michael McNamara says
Thanks for the post Damien!
I only recently learned myself that the password spelled out
C O L O R * S E T

Hi,
I have a used i2007 phone, which has the dhcp enabled. I cannot go to the configure menu.
As soon as you power it up it will be looking for the dhcp server and keep restarting without being able to go to the configure menu.
Any suggestion.
Michael McNamara says
Hi Jameel,
You should be able to enter the configuration by clicking on the two gears in the lower left hand corner of the LCD. You might be prompted for the administrator password.
Good Luck!
Frank says
Hey im trying to reset to factory defaults using **RENEW[MAC]## but where do i perform this? u say anytime but dosnt seem to work for me.
Michael McNamara says
Hi Frank,

Does anyone know if SIP firmware exists for 1150e phone, it dosnt seem like it from my searches ? any one comment on this ?
Justin says
Hi Frank. No, its only on the 1120E and 1140E phones. The 1150E is a special call center phone for use with UNISTIM protocol. I would say try it with the Asterisk UNISTIM driver but I have found the current driver is unstable even with the 1120e as I tried it out last week, it was designed for the Nortel i2002 and i2005 phones. If you are a C coder you might be able to hack it…
Frank says
hrrm, well that sux someone gave these to me and was hoping to use them with my SIP provider directly. :( oh well maybe i can trade them any takers? :)

Hi I got a BCM50 rel3.0 and its not supporting 1150. how can i make it work. i can see that 1150 getting ip address from the bcm but just not connecting. I got a screen that says ” connecting to server” and its stays like that. How can solve this issue?
any suggestions…
Michael McNamara says
Hi James,
I don’t believe the 1150e is supported on the BCM50/SRG50. We looked at using the 1150E a few years ago on the SRG50 and it wasn’t supported. If you look in the configuration of the BCM50 you won’t find a set type for the 1150E, only 2002/1120E or 2004/1140E.
Sorry.
James says
Hi Michael,
Thanks for the info. But some people says it works with bcm50. thats why i tried. Here an example for one of the ad.
http://www.telephonemagic.com/nortel-ip-telephones/nortel-1150e-ip-phone.htm
Michael McNamara says
Hi James,
I have an SRG R6 and Business Element Manager only has options for the following IP models;
1140E/2004/2007/2050/221x
1120E/2002
1110/2001/2033
1220
1220
1210
I’m not saying it’s not possible but if you purchased the BCM50 from those folks I’d call their bluff.
Good Luck!
James says
Hi Michael,
Yes, you are right. I went through my BCM50 and I couldn’t find any option for 1150. I just saw that ad and i was bit curious about that. Thanks for the info..
Seyit says
Really thanks for the information.
It worked on 1110 ip set.

I’m trying to enable Bluetooth on my 1140E. I’ve tried accessing the pre-boot menu using the 4 soft keys below the display and the boot code mentioned in this article (2, 6, 5, 6, 7, *, 7, 3, 8, Down). Neither method gets me into a configuration menu.
Once the phone is loaded, double tapping services and then going to network configuration displays all of the settings, and I can see the setting “Bluetooth Enabled: No”, but can’t edit it. Does anyone know how I can enable bluetooth so that I can use my headset? Hopefully someone is still out there who can help.
Thanks!
Travis
Michael McNamara says
You can set the option in the provisioning files or manually on the IP phone itself.
It’s easiest to set it from the provisioning files if you are centrally managing thousands of sets.
You can have a look at this forum post for some clues… ultimately the NTP can guide you.

I have a Nortel IP Phone 1140e. It has been working fine. I left for 30 days and now my phone will not boot up. Its set for DHCP and when I plug in the cat5 it begins to boot and the speaker button lights up.
Michael McNamara says
It’s most likely failed… there were capacitor issues with some batches.
Mohd says
Dear Michel,
I am using Avaya 1110 IP Phone. Please let me know how to reset the phone because now IP conflict.
Michael McNamara says
Hi Mohd,
Just reconfigure the IP phone using the same process you used to configure it in the first place. If you were leveraging DHCP then you should check your DHCP scopes/pools.
Good Luck!

Hi Michael
I’m working on a Bcm 50 and trying to configure a Ip phone 1120e and none of the Admin passwords work. any idea what else to try?
Michael McNamara says
Hi Romeo,
The default IP phone password should be COLOR*SET, 26567*728.
If someone has changed the password you’ll need to perform a factory reset;
