Thanks for all your help. I meant to reply with a conclusion on this...the overlooked step on my part was enabling the global setting on the Cisco switch 'lldp run' as soon as this was enabled the phones received the CDP information and came right up under the "Auto" setting.

Thanks again for helping me with this,

Thanks for all your help!

Hi Shawn,

I should have previously mentioned that in order for the option to appear you need to have LLDP-MED (802.1ab) enabled in the configuration of the IP phone.

I believe it's toward the top of the IP phone configuration menu.

With that option enable you should have an additional option of LLDP-MED in the Voice VLAN setting.

Good Luck!

Mike,

Any specific version? I applied the latest firmware on the 1120Es (C8A) and the options remained the same...(No VLAN, VLAN ID, Auto).

Same with the 1140E on firmware version C7F.

Are you receiving different results?

Thanks in advance,

Hi Shawn,

You should set the VLAN option on the IP phone to LLDP-MED.

If you don't have that option you need to upgrade the software/firmware on the IP phone.

Good Luck!

Thanks Mike for the reply, sorry that I wasn't very clear on question. I am trying to have the Cisco switch send the .1Q tag, however, when I set the 1120 phone to LLDP enable, 802.1Q enable and VLAN to Auto (options are No VLAN, AUTO, ID) its as if the phone never receives and sets the tag.

If I manually enter the tag on the phone to the same vlan ID that have within the command "switchport voice vlan" the phone receives DHCP and comes up fine.

Here is the lldp for int gi1/0/1

TESTLAB#show lldp interface gi1/0/1

GigabitEthernet1/0/1:
    Tx: enabled
    Rx: enabled
    Tx state: INIT
    Rx state: WAIT PORT OPER

Any thoughts?

Hi Shawn,

I'm not 100% clear but I'm going to assume your asking what commands on the Cisco 3750 enable the IP phones to assign the voice VLAN via LLDP-MED?

switchport voice vlan #

Good Luck!

Michael,

I have a question about LLDP/CDP on a Cisco 3750. We are in the process of migrating to Cisco from Extreme and on our current switches (48p) we use LLDP to assign the 802.1q tag to the phone. I have reviewed the documentation (all I see are settings for the timers) and I'm sure I am just missing something but where in the lldp settings do you specify the advertised tag or vlan?

Here are the Extreme commands that i am currently running:

-enable lldp ports 1

-configure lldp port 1 advertise vendor-specific dot1 vlan-name vlan voicenet

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Hi Roman,

Have you loaded the UNIstim 3.4 firmware release for the phones? I recently loaded 0604DCN for the i2002/i2004 and I don't believe I'm seeing the "LLDP TTL HAS EXPIRED" error message anymore.

Cheers;
