Hi Leonidas,

I would start by validating that your serial cable and HyperTerminal settings are correct and fucntional. Do you have another AP-5131 or similar AP that you could use to test your serial cable and terminal settings? I believe the AP-5131, AP-7131 and RFS4000, RFS6000, RFS7000 all utilize an RJ-45 console port cable (rollover) similar to Cisco. However, they utilize 19200 bps as opposed to the usual default of 9600 bps for most manufacturers.

Good Luck!

I cannot get connected to a Motorola AP-5131 neither via utp (cannot ping 192.168.0.1 or 10.1.1.1) nor with a serial cable (via hyperterminal)!! What should i do?
Can i use a simple 9F-9F serial cable to hyperterminal Motorola AP-5131 or do i have to use only Motorola's 25-96992-01R serial cable??

The firmware version is 2. something so I used admin and motorola as the PW then changed it via serial connection. I've tried it with another computer since my last posting and was able to connect with that system. Still don't know what is stopping me with this one. I'm on IE 7 with the latest java verison. same as the other pc.

Hi Michael, I have the AP-5131,I've used a null modem cable to reset everything so to speak. I've set the admin password and country code. I've also set the VLAN mask to 255.255.255.0 and my pc to 10.1.1.2, mask 255.255.255.0 however I'm still unable to connect to the AP thur the IE. I only get as far as the AP-5131 Access Point Login screen. When I enter my admin ID and password all I get nothing not even an invalid password message. Of course if I enter an invalid password it does tell me I did that. Please help! Steve

Hi Esteban,

Perhaps it's the terminal emulation that you are using? You might want to try a different emulation type such as VT100. I'm assuming that you can type in a username when the AP5131 boots so that proves that your serial cable is good.

Good Luck!

Hi Michael, I have the AP-5131,the null modem cable, the problem is that I forgot the user and password, and I need use my AP with other parameters, I tried to reset the AP-5131 password with your instructions but when I press the "ESC" key the boot continues normally and the prompt no display for type "passwd default" What I can do?

Thanks.

Hi Eli,

As I posted above you need to use the serial interface to connect to the AP 5131 and factory reset it. If you're unsure that your cable or serial port settings are correct try connecting to the working AP5131 and you should get a login prompt. If you don't get a login prompt then you have the wrong cable (I believe you need a NULL serial cable for Motorola equipment) or you have the wrong baud rate on the port.

Good Luck!
